Everton Football Club, often referred to as Everton or the Toffees, is a professional association football club located in Liverpool, England. They compete in the Premier League, the highest level of English football. Everton was one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888 and holds the record for the most seasons played in the top division, with 120 seasons as of May 2023. They have only missed four top-flight seasons in their history (1930-31, 1951-52, 1952-53, and 1953-54). Everton has the second-longest continuous presence in English top-flight football and ranks third in the all-time points rankings. The club has an illustrious history, having won nine league titles, five FA Cups, one European Cup Winners' Cup, and nine Charity Shields. Established in 1878, Everton clinched their first League Championship in the 1890-91 season. They went on to win four more League championships and two FA Cups, experiencing a brief decline after the Second World War. However, the club enjoyed a resurgence in the 1960s. The mid-1980s marked a period of sustained success for Everton, as they secured two more League championships, one FA Cup, and the 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup. Their most recent major trophy triumph came in the 1995 FA Cup. The loyal supporters of Everton are commonly known as "Evertonians" or "Blues." The club's biggest rivals are Liverpool FC, whose home stadium, Anfield, is located less than a mile away from Everton's historic ground, Goodison Park. The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool is one of the most fiercely contested matches in English football. Goodison Park has been Everton's home since 1892, following a disagreement over rent with Liverpool. The club's traditional colors are royal blue shirts paired with white shorts and socks.
